A brief history
Lynda Ashmore, Hilary Dean, Morris Dean and Kate Hardwick founded 'The Rex Cat Association' in July 1989. Notification of a new Rex club was placed in 'Cats' magazine in the issue dated 1 September 1989 and in January 1990, the first Rex Cat Association meeting was held.
'Where Felines Come First' was chosen as the clubs motto/logo, and the RCA has always tried to be guided by those words, and the Committee, the majority having been together since formation and long term friends, will support the RCA regardless of current politics. The club's badge, designed by Lynda's daughter Georgina, representing a Cornish and a Devon head being held in 'caring hands', tries to reflect this.
Affiliation to GCCF was granted in 1993 and the following year the club held its first show, back to back with the Exotic Cat Club, at Lutterworth in Leicestershire. With the Millennium came the RCA's first Championship show. The show is now held at the Greig Centre, Alcester, Warwickshire, in partnership with the Abyssinian, Korat and Singapura Associations.
It was agreed, that although the development and the welfare of the Rex and well being of the membership was paramount, that the Cat Fancy should be a hobby that should be enjoyed regardless of success, or otherwise, on the show bench, and the joy of owning a Rex should be shared. The club has tried, not only to be informative and instructive, but also to be seen as having a sense of humour, and where it matters, a relaxed approach.
The RCA is a club to be enjoyed because it was developed from the love of cats - long may it remain.
